GenPhar’s AV-Select™-HIV drug resistance assay represents the latest development in phenotypic assay technology. It is capable of directly detecting and quantifying anti-HIV drug resistance in patients, regardless of the drug’s mechanism(s) of action. Av-Select-HIV is less expensive, applicable to all classes of anti-HIV drugs, more sensitive, more accurate and less time-consuming than the existing commercially available phenotypic assays. GenPhar’s assay measures the susceptibility of a patient’s virus to inhibition by specific antiretroviral drugs through the use of a patented, indicator cell system.

GenPhar’s AV-Select™-HIV Technology
Our AV-Select™-HIV assay utilizes a patented indicator cell line that is highly permissive for HIV-1 infection. Initially, the cell line is infected with a patient’s virus and then treated with anti-HIV drugs. HIV strains that are susceptible to the drugs do not replicate and therefore will not infect neighboring cells.
Virus infection is then quantified and the resultant drug susceptibility or resistance of the patient’s virus to each drug is determined. As a result, a patient’s virus drug resistance can be monitored and recorded over the course of therapy, providing a highly sensitive method for detecting the emergence of drug resistant virus mutants. This new phenotypic assay provides more than a prediction of antiretroviral drug resistance. The AV-Select™-HIV assay offers a specific, straightforward measurement of the actual susceptibility or resistance of a patient’s virus to each of the antiretroviral drugs being tested.
